ALUMNA SYLVIA JONES

Sylvia Jones is Special Projects Producer at WLS-TV/ABC 7 Chicago.  She joined ABC 7 in January 2006 after serving in the same capacity for nearly five years at WGN-TV.  Sylvia returned home to Chicago after having been Executive Producer of Special Projects at WKBD-TV and WWJ-TV -- the UPN/CBS duopoly in Detroit.  Prior to that position, she worked as a reporter and line producer at WTOL-TV in Toledo, Ohio.  Sylvia got her start in the industry working as a news writer and management trainee at WFLD-TV and WLS-TV in Chicago respectively.

Sylvia most enjoys producing stories that directly relate to women, children and culture.  Throughout her career, she has received numerous professional awards for her efforts including an Emmy, an Edward R. Murrow, and the 2001 Young Journalist of the Year award from the Metro Detroit Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. 

Sylvia earned her master’s degree in journalism with a specialization in broadcasting at Northwestern University after earning dual bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Communications from Stanford University.  A native Chicagoan, Sylvia was motivated to vigorously pursue higher education while attending high school at Providence St. Mel on the city’s West Side.
